Firefox 3 has been released, but unfortunately Asus left us with an older version of GTK that is useless if you wanna upgrade. I've managed to find an Etch version of GTK 2.10 that Firefox 3 will work with, and have also packaged Firefox 3 itself into a more easily installable format. Some users have been downloading GTK and storing it in their home directories and then modifying the launch script to point to this directory. Such hodge podge solutions are really quite ugly and shouldn't be necessary at all.

These deb files should be all you need to install Firefox 3 onto Xandros. Firefox itself is packaged into a deb and installs to /opt/firefox3e and links to your system-wide plugins (ie. flash etc)

To run it, just type "firefox3e" into a terminal, or setup an icon as you see fit using Launcher Tools or your favourite Launcher Adder / Menu Editor.

Installation download all of these packages into an empty directory, then navigate to that directiory in a terminal and issue this command: sudo dpkg -i *.deb

If you still have missing dependancies please mention in the support forum which packages are still required for you, and we will endeavour to have them repackaged and made available for download.

Disclaimer: Due to the fact Asus has modified a lot of packages and things in each release/update they make, no guarantee can be given this method will work for your specific release of the Asus OS. Please keep in mind this is out of the control of the author of this guide. Also if your system wants to remove many packages to complete the installation, then cancel, this method is not for you.
